Right at the beginning, for those who don't know, Bernina sewing machines are a well-known Swiss brand of sewing machines (Bernina swiss made); when I say "*******" it would mean the vernacular "******" in the world of sewing machines. Why is it like that,? Here's today's example is the Bernina 830 record, what "adorns" this model to be different from the others. Each Bernina machine is "adorned" with material quality, durability, ease of handling, ergonomics and design in general.
Svaku Bernina masinu "krasi" kvalitet materijala, dugotrajnost, jednostavnost rukovanja, ergonomija i općenito dizajn. The main construction, the externally visible part of the machine, is almost entirely made of metal, except for the side cover under the main pulley, it is an aluminum alloy, so in terms of oxidation and other things it is a durable material. All internal elements are extra high quality, many levers and shafts are made of quality steel. I have to separate two elements made of special hard plastic (Teflon or some combination, I'm not sure), it works in two gears, one is on the "worm" transmission of the programmer and the other is a bevel gear for transfer to the lower part of the machine-grapple. The first is coupled with a "worm" threaded spindle (central steel shaft) and the second with a metal gear. These gears do not have any special load at all, and their addition probably reduced the sound of the machine. Let me say right away that the sound of the machine is very quiet...
3- indikator napetosti gornjeg konca +/-
4- indikator pozicije dekoratinih,vez i ostalih štepova
5- polugica programatora(pomijeranje-desno pa naprijed)
6- samo cik/cak ili programski rad
7- motalica donjeg konca
8- dugme rekulatora širine za cik/cak i ostale štepove
9- pozicioniranje igle
The following picture clearly shows that longitudinal, serrated "bar" at the top. Lubricate only with the highest quality sewing machine oil, for the position indicated by the white arrow, a fine lithium-based grease (NOT pure white) can be used. The side and top covers are on small "hinges" and are easily opened by hand with little resistance from the automatic locks. The approach to lubrication, cleaning is "in the palm of your hand". Lubricate all sliding surfaces with oil and gears with fine grease; the last picture shows us some of the possibilities of this extraordinary machine, a machine for all time. Let me just add that this model can be used by both amateurs and professionals in the world of sewing and tailoring. The beginning of production dates back to the 1975s and the end ten years later...
Let me now follow the attached pictures:
The machine is factory placed in a portable red suitcase, in the suitcase there are places designated for individual elements so that when assembled there is no special internal movement of anything.
The plastic red box contains various types of feet, coils, cleaning brushes ... among other things, there is a foot lift (knee), it is easy to install and its advantage, as with industrial machines, is that both hands are free to work. The starting slipper is wide and massive, it is made of special hard "plastic" (bakelite, heat-resistant material) and the dosing speed of the machine-needle is excellent. Thread retraction is shown in the figure, a quality and simple solution.
An additional surface for extending the work surface is always used if we do not need a sleeve surface, it is also made of aluminum, nicely beveled edges and installation is simple, on the underside is a lever that tightens and loosens (lock), the edge of the inner part that rests on the sleeve is covered with some kind of fabric to protect the varnish during manipulation. Bernina feet are unique and patented, removal and installation is in one second and there is a "notch" on the foot lock for cutting the thread. The Bernina 830 is a completely mechanical machine, with the exception of the electric motor and the starting pedal. In order to get the power of the needle, a very fast motor was installed and the reduction was solved with the help of two belts and a belt drive (see picture).
The tension of the belts is solved by means of a spring and the fixing is done by means of a central screw, the smaller belt going from the engine is somewhat more relaxed due to the unloading of the engine and slipping is very rare, only in case of excessive load.
Now a little about the positions marked in the picture, I marked 14 from, so let's start:
1- upper thread tensioner (double, possible operation with double needle)
2- upper thread tension dial
3- upper thread tension indicator +/-
4- position indicator of decorative, embroidery and other stitches
5- programmer lever (scroll-right to forward)
6- only zigzag or program work
7- lower thread winder
8- width recuperator button for zigzag and other stitches
9- needle positioning
10- button for making holes
11- point length / forward-backward
12- lower conveyor on / off
13- foot lift connection (elbow)
14- foot lift lever (for position 13)
1- zateznik gornjeg konca(dupli, moguć rad za duplom iglom)
2- točkić za podešavanje napetosti gornjeg konca
3- indikator napetosti gornjeg konca +/-
4- indikator pozicije dekoratinih,vez i ostalih štepova
5- polugica programatora(pomijeranje-desno pa naprijed)
6- samo cik/cak ili programski rad
8- dugme rekulatora širine za cik/cak i ostale štepove
9- pozicioniranje igle
10- dugme za izradu rupica
11- dužina boda/naprije-nazad
12- donji transporter uključeno/isključeno
13- priključak za nožno podizanje stopice(koljenar)
14- poluga za nožno podizanje (za poziciju 13)
Now a little about the maintenance of this machine;
Bernina record 830 is very easy to maintain, you don't need to unscrew any screws to access anything, they are all hinged covers with various locks, for example, to access the inside of the sleeve, remove the foot and needle, see two yellow arrows in the picture, pressing at the upper marked position we remove the upper surface of the sleeve and the lower arrow shows where the shuttle hook is dismantled, but in the next picture we can see what it looks like. When I say something interesting about the hook, Bernina has an oscillating type of shuttle hook, the interesting thing is that its movement is done with a small serrated "lath" which is unique in the world of sewing machines, I think it is patented by Bernina, but I'm not 100% sure.
Can you explain the difference between sewing machine Bernina 830 record and Bernina 831,thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks for the question, the difference is small, the platform is the same, the same electric motor, Bernina 831 has a smaller number of programs and no FHS (free hand system).
ReplyDeleteIt was during this time a cheaper option for those who wanted the same quality sewing machine for less money.Best regards
can you recommend which type of grease to buy for the 830 record electronic?

I hope you will be albe to help me. Would you have the feed dog support for a Bernina 830. I am in my 70's so purchasing anew machine is not in my budget. I have called everywhere in area I can find and no one can spply the part or part number nor can they install it if I find one on the secondary market. Do you have the part? If I purchase the parts catalog would it have that part number? I am trying to sew for a new grandgirl. Thank you I appreciate you and your time and knowledge.
ReplyDelete"If I purchase the parts catalog would it have that part number?"
DeleteOf course there is.
How did you conclude that the 'feed dog' is defective?
I have an old 830 Record. Broke a needle today, and now the bobbin is jammed. I dismantled the bobbin case, thinking it would be straightforward, removed the broken needle, but the machine is still jammed. I'm trying to find your video on the Bernina bobbin case. Can you please point me to it?

DeleteBERNINA 830 RECORD SERVICE MANUAL
I made the mistake of messing with the knobs when I got my grandmas sewing machine that she left me. I was just so excited but it had not been used in like 13 years so now it is stuck in button hole position. I have read that can happen if not used for a long time but now what can I do?
ReplyDeleteWe all like to poke around sometimes about things we are not educated about, it's nothing terrible, I recommend that you go to our youtube channel, search for "bernina 830" at least 3 video clips that address the topic you are interested in.
