Janome is a Japanese company that produces sewing machines with production facilities in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. The company was founded in 1935 and Janome became a trademark. In 1954, the company was renamed JANOME Sewing Machine Co., Ltd.
Around 1862, William Barker and Andrew J. Clark began manufacturing sewing machines called "The Pride of the West" and later called it the "New England Single Thread Hand Sewing Machine" after the plant moved to Orange, Massachusetts in 1867.
